Description: Come to an audition like none you’ve ever been to before!  For the first time in Chicago, A Klingon Christmas Carol is having a production overhaul… new set! new costumes! new fights!  Now, we’re looking for new actors.

Commedia Beauregard is looking to cast 13 individuals (8-10 male, 3-5 female) for the cast of “A Klingon Christmas Carol”, the only play to have ever been performed in tlhIngan Hol (the Klingon language from the Star Trek movies and TV shows). For the show, actors will be expected to learn how to pronounce Klingon and perform in that language. However, no prior knowledge of the language is expected.

Especially looking for those with puppetry and physical acting experience.  All actors will play multiple roles.  The role of SQuja’ (Scrooge) has been cast.

This is a translation of the Dickens classic holiday tale. Scrooge has no courage, nor honor. The ghosts are coming to help him fix that. Because Klingons are what they are, expect stage combat, singing, and a lot of guttural sounds. Entering its 4th year in Chicago, this show has garnered national and international press attention.

Performances are held at The Raven Theatre (6157 N Clark St).  One special performance this year will be in Elgin.

Time Commitment: A few physical rehearsals will be held July-September; the full rehearsal schedule will begin in October. Five rehearsals per week. Evenings during the week and afternoons on weekends. Tech rehearsals are November 25th-27th. Show Opens November 30th (with a preview on Nov. 29) and runs through December 29th. 21 Performances. No rehearsal or show on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day.

Material to Prepare: Please dress for movement. Audition will consist of readings from the script (in English), a quick fight sequence, and a language-lesson. Actors will audition in groups of 20; you will be required to stay the entire 75 minutes.

Contact Info: To schedule an audition, email with your name, phone #, and your preferred time slot. Please, also attach a headshot and resume.

Commedia Beauregard is a non-profit theatre company that produces theatre in Chicago and Minneapolis/Saint Paul. The company is dedicated to producing theatre in translation. This often means works form one language into another. However, the company does explore what it means to translate, as well. Commedia Beauregard has been making theatre since 1999. It relocated its permanent base of operations to Chicago in 2011. [an error occurred while processing the directive]
