Julie's Unfortunate Arrangement

May 2008 : Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Minneapolis, MN

Inspired by William Shakespeare (and far too many Coronet Instructional Films)
Written by Matthew A. Everett, Sasha Walloch, and Christopher O. Kidder
Directed by Christopher O. Kidder

Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays of all time.  And so, the Minnesota Fringe Festival invited five definitely different theatre companies to give it some special treatment.  On May 5th, 2008, Commedia Beauregard combined efforts with Four Humours Theater, Zealots and Mystics, Rockstar Storytellers, and the Brave New Workshop to reinvent Shakespeare's classic love story.

Each company was assigned an act of the play to play around with.  We got the fourth act.  It is so much more than just "She gets the potion, she takes the potion, she doesn't wake up."  Trust us.  We translated this old-time fave for a slightly more modern audience. Remember those great instructional films from the 50's & 60's? Well, here's one about how to avoid an unwanted arranged marriage!
